Unlike real life, the internet community doesn’t require an answer right away when you are in a debate or discussion. One of the mistakes that I see happening online is the defensiveness that comes from Christians when they cannot answer someone.

If you don’t know the answer, log out and return when you do; or you can let the person know that you will get an answer from someone and come back. Be sure to return to that person with the results of your research.

Because the person doesn’t see your face, a defensive or passionate response may be misinterpreted as anger. Likewise, another mistake from Christians is expecting people who don’t believe in God to have our values. Gentle your tone and answer the question as from teacher to student.

Be aware that each of these will require prayer first as not all who inquire really want answers, but instead, want to fight.

Words like, “Don’t judge me,” are common as well as name-calling.

Do not respond in kind. Respond in love.
